How to be an “All IN” Athlete

Out practice your competition developing your skills
As an athlete whether it was a team or individual sport I would check out my competition to see how skilled they were compared to me then I would practice the skills I needed to catch them, pass them, or stay ahead of them. I always worked on my weakest point until it was a strong point, then I would practice the next weakest skill until it also was at the level needed to be successful. Practice truly does make perfect.
Out train your competition by developing your body to its full potential
This was something that came easy to me because I love training; the hard part was learning how to specialize my workouts for the sport I was in at the time. The type of training I did depended on if the sport required more strength such as bodybuilding, more speed and endurance for road races, or a combination of both for sports like football, basketball, racquetball and tennis. A point I want to make is train smarter not harder by having the knowledge on how to increase your training without increasing the chance of injury.

Out think your competition to have the mental edge when competing
To me this starts with believing you’re the best and that if you perform to the best of your ability you will be the victor. Learn your opponent’s weakness and exploit it. If you are in better shape push the pace, if you are more skilled use that to your advantage by being patient until you see an opening and then go for it. Believing in yourself no matter what is happening will help you overcome many obstacles and give you the confidence to finish strong.
Out hustle your competition by having the will to win
This is huge. Believe you trained harder and are more prepared. Give 100% when competing from start to finish. Take that extra step to get to a ball, dig a little deeper inside for more speed, jump higher than you ever imaged…this all starts in your mind, then your heart, and finally reaches your body.
If you have done all this you can hold your head high, whether you win or lose, knowing you gave your all…you were “ALL-IN!”
